bunny amongst the flowers

Hi everyone!

Thankfully the weather seems to be finally bringing along fresh Spring days, which means that there is a lot more sketchbook action outside! Over the winter our reference photography is used to sketch from, but it's not the same as sketching from the real thing. Our garden and houseplants provide so much inspiration for hand illustrated designs used on our products. Also any excuse to get to the beach on a clear day and sketch is happily used! Both coastline and botanical themes feature strongly in our designs and it is easy to see where the colour inspiration comes from.

We have some super exciting events coming up and we also want to let you know about our extended Sewing Workshops line up. Firstly, we are thrilled to be part of the Spring Fair at The Bedruthan Hotel and Spa in Mawgan Porth, Cornwall, on 21st and 22nd April. It will be open from 10am until 4pm on both Saturday and Sunday, with a minimal entrance fee on the door of £1.50. There are some fantastic designer makers taking part and we are really looking forward to a great fair. Another reason that we are looking forward to it is that we are hosting a sewing workshop there teaching hand embroidery. If you fancy coming along, it will be an hour and a half taster session at 12 o'clock on the Saturday 21st. You can learn how to sew some simple stitches and how to start off a design in a hoop. This would be perfect to try if you would like to have a go but don't want to invest in all the equipment, (not that there is much required!) or if you just fancy a refresher course. The cost is £15 and all materials will be provided. As an attendee you can also qualify for 10% off our range (at the event only).

We had a fabulous day with the ladies at Harbour House on our freehand machine embroidery workshop last month. Everyone did brilliantly again and ended the day with lots of samples and enthusiasm for continuing with freemotion/ freehand machine embroidery sewing. (they are the same technique!) I do love hosting these workshops and helping people to try new sewing techniques. The results at the end of the day are always so thrilling to see. Everyone's work is always so individual and interesting. It is great to watch the concentration and then the joy on our students faces when they realise that they 'can do it'!

There are spaces available for the next workshop at Harbour House on  Saturday 28th April which again is Freehand Machine Embroidery based. There is a fantastic cafe on site which we can use for lunch breaks and refreshments, although we do provide complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits in the studio to keep you going!

New dates for sewing workshops at Harbour House Centre for Arts and Yoga continue on Saturdays, once a month.

We continue with freehand machine embroidery classes in April, May and June until July when we turn to getting to know your sewing machine. This is a perfect class for beginners who are new to sewing, or simply those who would like some encouragement with using their machines. In August, we will have a day learning Hand Embroidery and in September we turn our attention to learning how to create beautiful cushion covers. Do contact us if you would like any more information on any of the classes, we will be happy to help.

That's about it for now, plenty more in the pipeline though!! X
